Fiscal Year 2024 Flood Mitigation Assistance
This program provides federal funding to states, local governments, and tribal authorities to implement projects that reduce flood risks and enhance resilience, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
Description
The Fiscal Year 2024 Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Grant Program, administered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) – Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), provides federal funding to support mitigation efforts that reduce or eliminate the risk of repetitive flood damage. The program is designed for states, U.S. territories, federally recognized tribal governments, and local governments with structures insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The primary goal is to enhance resilience by mitigating flood-related hazards in NFIP-participating communities.
A total of $600,000,000 is available in funding for this opportunity, with an expected 40 awards distributed. This grant supports a variety of flood mitigation projects, such as property acquisition and structure relocation, elevation of flood-prone structures, localized flood risk reduction projects, and other activities aimed at long-term flood risk reduction. The funding does not require cost-sharing or matching contributions from applicants, making it an accessible opportunity for eligible entities.
Eligible applicants include state governments, county governments, city or township governments, federally recognized tribal governments, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. All applications must be submitted through FEMA Grants Outcomes (GO), the designated grant management system. The submission portal can be accessed at https://go.fema.gov/.
