George Family Foundation Environment Grant

Applications Due: June 05, 2025
Private
George Family Foundation

This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations focused on environmental initiatives, particularly those operating in Minnesota, Dallas, Northern San Francisco Bay Area/Marin County, and the Vail Valley.

Description

The George Family Foundation invites new organizations to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) as the initial step toward seeking funding. This LOI helps the Foundation assess the organization’s alignment with its mission and current philanthropic priorities. The Foundation operates on a biannual review schedule, focusing on different program areas during each board meeting. Applications for Authentic Leadership, Youth Development, and Spirituality and Inner Life are accepted between September 1 and January 5, with proposal invitations issued in early March and board decisions made in June. Applications for Whole-Person Health and Wellbeing and Environment are accepted from March 1 to June 5, with proposal invitations issued in mid-to-late August and board decisions made in December. The Foundation is not accepting LOIs for its Community or Next Generation Fund focus areas at this time.

Applicants must submit their LOI through the Foundation’s online portal. Due to high demand, only organizations whose programs and activities are highly aligned with the Foundation’s mission and aspirations are invited to submit full proposals. Notification regarding selection for full proposal submission is provided after the board decisions in March and August. The Foundation's funding decisions are finalized at the June and December board meetings, depending on the applicable focus area.

Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. While national organizations are occasionally funded, the Foundation generally prioritizes organizations working within Minnesota, Dallas, Northern San Francisco Bay Area/Marin County, and the Vail Valley. The Foundation does not fund capital improvements, endowments, or scientific research.

Applicants who have further questions regarding the LOI process are encouraged to contact Andrea Ricci, the Grants and Operations Manager. The Foundation’s office is located at 1818 Oliver Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55405, and can be reached by phone at (612) 377-3476.
