Description
The "Fair Housing Initiative Program - Fair Housing Organizations Initiative (FR-6800-N-21-B)" NOFO from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is intended to support fair housing enforcement and education activities through the Fair Housing Organizations Initiative (FHOI). The program has two main components:
1. Continued Development Component (CDC): Allocates $1,820,000 to build capacity for existing non-profit fair housing organizations. Eligible activities include investigating housing discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, source of income, religion, or expanding testing in mortgage lending and appraisal contexts.
2. Establishing New Organizations Component (ENOC): Allocates $1,880,000 to establish new fair housing organizations, particularly in areas currently underserved by such services. This component targets Qualified Fair Housing Enforcement Organizations (QFHOs) to sponsor new entities that will become viable local or regional enforcement bodies.
The total funding available for this initiative is $3,700,000, with awards ranging from $100,000 to $1,880,000 depending on the component. The CDC has a grant period of 12-18 months, while ENOC has a longer grant period of 36 months. Eligible applicants include QFHOs, Fair Housing Enforcement Organizations, and other private non-profits seeking to expand their enforcement capacities. Both components aim to support underserved communities and strengthen fair housing enforcement efforts across the U.S.
