Award Details: The Peter Kiewit Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations with a valid 501(c)(3) status and units of government. Grants are primarily awarded in the Omaha metro area and across the state of Nebraska, as well as in Western Iowa within 100 miles of Omaha. The foundation considers proposals that align closely with their Strategic Impact Areas, which include College Access and Success, Youth Development, Economic Development and Opportunities, Quality of Place Amenities, and Community Capacity. The foundation offers two scholarship programs: the "Kiewit Vocational Scholarship" Program with Nebraska Community Colleges and Iowa Western, and the "Peter Kiewit Foundation Engineering Academy" at the University of Nebraska.
Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations with a valid 501(c)(3) status and units of government are eligible to apply for grants from the Peter Kiewit Foundation. Proposals must align closely with the foundation's Strategic Impact Areas. The foundation does not fund individuals, for-profit businesses, other private foundations, individual K-12 schools, churches, or hospitals. Matching funds are required before submitting a request. The size and duration of grants vary based on factors such as the amount requested, project scope, community support, and past foundation grants for similar projects.
Other Relevant Information: Grant decisions are made three times a year in March, June, and October by the foundation's Board of Trustees. Grants are approved based on alignment to strategic impact areas, opportunity for impact, organization's ability to execute and sustain the work, level of community support, governance structure, leadership track record, capacity, and financial health. Grant terms include specific disbursement terms and reporting requirements unique to each grant.
