Description
The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney of Kauai County has announced the Life’s Choices Adult and Adolescent Mental Health and Substance Abuse Community Program Grants. These grants aim to support community programs that provide pro-social youth activities, clinical mental health services, and substance abuse treatment on the island of Kaua‘i. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025. The funding is intended to support initiatives that encourage positive social behavior, personal development, and community engagement, particularly for youth and young adults.
Eligible applicants do not need to provide direct substance abuse or mental health treatment but should focus on pro-social youth and young adult activities. These activities are designed to provide healthy alternatives and reduce substance abuse through structured programs. Elements of eligible programs may include physical activity, emotional wellbeing, resilience building, leadership training, civic engagement, mental health support, reduction in risky behavior, mentoring, peer support, counseling or therapy, coping skills, and confidence building.
The total grant funding available is $1,000,000. The application process requires submissions to be sent via email to opagrants@kauai.gov. Applications will not be accepted via postal mail, fax, or in-person delivery. Proposals received after the deadline will not be considered. Successful applicants will be notified of funding decisions during the week of February 24, 2025. Approved projects will receive funding for the period from March 15, 2025, through March 14, 2026.
Priority consideration will be given to programs that serve adolescents and young adults on Kaua‘i. The program seeks to support evidence-based initiatives that engage youth in positive activities, leading to better long-term outcomes. Organizations that work with youth and qualify as nonprofits are strongly encouraged to apply.
