Project Grants for Non-profit Organizations in Missouri
This grant provides funding to non-profit organizations in Missouri that are working to improve economic mobility through education, workforce development, and entrepreneurship initiatives in the Kansas City region.
Description
The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation’s Project Grants are designed to address economic mobility gaps in the Kansas City region by supporting multiyear initiatives aligned with the foundation's strategic priorities. These priorities include advancing education, workforce development, and entrepreneurship. The grants provide funding of at least $250,000 annually for projects that either scale successful existing approaches or launch evidence-based initiatives with demonstrated success in peer cities. The foundation’s goal is to foster impactful solutions that empower individuals, strengthen communities, and drive equitable economic growth.
The application process begins with a Letter of Interest (LOI), which can be submitted during the open window from October 15, 2024, to January 10, 2025. Following the LOI review, selected applicants will be invited to submit full proposals. Funds for approved projects will be disbursed in the second quarter of 2025. The foundation runs two grant cycles per year, providing regular opportunities for organizations to align their proposals with its strategic goals.
The foundation prioritizes projects that build pathways for job placement and career advancement, provide capital for historically under-resourced entrepreneurs, and introduce workforce exposure starting in middle school. Additional focus areas include integrating entrepreneurial skills into educational programs, addressing barriers like transportation and childcare, and enhancing connections within education, workforce, and entrepreneurship ecosystems. Support for smaller frontline organizations through intermediaries is also a key area of interest, ensuring resources reach those directly serving communities.
Examples of fundable projects include integrating durable skills frameworks into training programs, fostering networks for entrepreneurs of color, and leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to close economic mobility gaps. Projects must demonstrate their scalability, impact potential, and ability to advance the foundation’s mission of equitable economic mobility.
Applicants are encouraged to attend optional webinars, explore the foundation’s funding philosophy, and review the detailed timeline and guidelines available on the Kauffman Foundation website. This grant opportunity offers a significant platform to implement transformative solutions and strengthen Kansas City’s economic and social fabric.
