Halifax County Convention & Visitors Bureau Capital Grants Program
This program provides funding to non-profit organizations and local governments in Halifax County, North Carolina, to support tourism development projects that enhance visitor attractions and stimulate economic growth.
Description
The Halifax County Convention & Visitors Bureau (HCCVB) Capital Grants Program supports tourism development projects in Halifax County, North Carolina, for the period from January 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027. The program provides funding in three categories: Bricks and Mortar, Museum Artifact and Conservation Care, and Municipalities. Grants aim to stimulate economic growth through tourism by enhancing visitor attractions, restoring structures, and supporting tourism-related projects. Priority is given to projects that attract visitors from outside the county and generate overnight stays, thereby boosting the local economy.
Eligible applicants must be non-profit organizations with a 501(c)(3) designation or government bodies located within Halifax County, with a history of at least three years in operation. Each organization can submit only one application per cycle, and multiple organizations cannot apply for the same project. Bricks and Mortar grants require a 1:1 funding match, with a maximum grant of $50,000. The other two categories—Museum Conservation and Municipalities—do not require matching funds, with caps of $10,000 and $5,000, respectively.
Projects must strictly focus on tourism development and should not include elements unrelated to enhancing visitor experiences. The application requires documentation of secured funding for at least 50% of the project, detailed project descriptions, a budget outline, architectural plans (if applicable), and a timeline. Applications must be submitted in five complete sets by 5:00 p.m. on November 13, 2024, to be considered for funding. Awards will be announced by November 30, 2024.
Grant recipients are reimbursed upon project completion, with disbursement contingent upon submission of expenses, invoices, and payment proofs. Funded assets must remain open to the public for at least five years, or partial repayment may be required. Ineligible expenses include operational costs, salaries, equipment purchases, marketing, and non-tourism-related projects, such as school improvements or utility work.
The HCCVB Capital Grants Program aims to ensure a lasting economic impact on the community by supporting projects that promote tourism, enhance local attractions, and contribute to Halifax County's growth as a travel destination.
