Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs Capacity Grant
This funding initiative provides support to newly established nonprofit organizations in Utah to strengthen their internal structures and enhance their operational capacity for long-term success.
Description
The Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs offers the Capacity Grant, a funding initiative designed to assist newly established nonprofit organizations in Utah in building strong foundational structures. The program is supported through a partnership with IKEA and focuses on enhancing internal organizational development, governance, and long-term stability. The grant encourages investments in key operational areas such as board development, human resource management, marketing and communications, and strategic planning.
This grant aims to improve the overall capacity and efficiency of nonprofits, helping them create infrastructure and systems that enable sustained success in fulfilling their missions. Projects funded by the grant should work toward building internal efficiencies and strategic pathways for organizational resilience and impact.
The grant cycle for Fiscal Year 2025 begins with applications opening on April 1, 2025, and closing on May 1, 2025, at 5:00 PM. All applications must be submitted through the grants portal; each organization is limited to a single submission. The application review period spans May and June, with award notifications scheduled for June 2025. Selected grantees will be required to attend a Grantee Orientation Meeting in July, with funded projects commencing on July 1, 2025, and concluding by June 30, 2026.
To aid applicants, the Division of Multicultural Affairs will host two virtual office hours sessions on April 4 and April 18, as well as a detailed webinar on April 11 to explain the grant process, eligibility, and expectations.
Organizations interested in applying can access application questions and the budget template in advance on the grant’s website. New applicants must complete a New User Account form to obtain login credentials for the portal within three business days, while returning users may use their existing credentials.
For any questions or assistance, applicants can contact the Division at mcagrants@utah.gov or by phone at 801-245-7200. The Division advises allowing 2–3 business days for a response.
