Hecla Charitable Foundation Grant
This grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations focused on improving social, environmental, and economic sustainability in communities where Hecla operates.
Description
The Hecla Charitable Foundation, established in 2007 by Hecla Mining Company, provides grants to support educational and charitable initiatives in the communities where Hecla operates. The Foundation's mission focuses on enhancing the quality of life and promoting social, environmental, and economic sustainability and development within these communities. Grants are generally reviewed on a quarterly basis, although applicants are encouraged to submit well in advance of their funding needs to ensure proper consideration.
Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations in the United States or registered charities in Canada. U.S. applicants must complete a Foundation Grant Application and submit a current IRS tax-exempt determination letter. Canadian applicants must complete a Canadian Grant Application along with the appropriate affidavit (Appendix A or B) as specified in the application packet. In all cases, organizations are strongly encouraged to first discuss their funding needs with a local Hecla employee before submitting an application. Recommendations from local Hecla employees increase the chances of a successful grant award.
There are only two grant review periods per year, rather than four quarterly reviews as sometimes stated more generally. Specific deadlines for submission are not given, but the Foundation clearly advises submitting applications well before the actual funding need date to accommodate the review cycle.
