Local Parks Grants are funded annually with an application deadline in the Fall. Applications must be submitted through the Recreation Grants Online Grant Management System, as paper applications are not accepted. The evaluation of applications is based on the Priority Scoring System, and funding recommendations are presented to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission, which makes the final decisions on awards. The funding for the Local Park Grant Program is sourced from a portion of the state sales tax on sporting goods through the Texas Recreation and Parks Account and the Texas Large County & Municipality Recreation & Parks Account. Additional funding is provided by offshore gas royalties through the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
