Golden Dice Microgrant
This funding opportunity provides financial support to marginalized game designers, particularly those who identify as BILPOC or Female+, to help develop and promote their tabletop games.
Description
The Golden Dice Microgrant is a funding opportunity provided by Roll Together Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports marginalized creators within the tabletop and board game design community. Roll Together Foundation is committed to amplifying voices within the gaming industry, specifically those from underrepresented backgrounds. The Golden Dice Microgrant offers targeted financial support to game designers who identify as BILPOC, which includes Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and all People of Color. In addition, the grant also explicitly welcomes applications from individuals who identify as Female+, a term inclusive of those who are assigned female at birth, female transgender, nonbinary, and gender fluid individuals.
The primary purpose of the Golden Dice Microgrant is to support game designers in the development and promotion of their tabletop games, including board games, card games, party games, and tabletop RPGs. Each microgrant awarded will be in the amount of $1,000, and these funds may be used for a wide range of eligible expenses directly related to game design and development. Examples include purchasing materials, commissioning promotional art, creating prototypes, funding Kickstarter campaigns, and more. All grant recipients will be required to retain and submit invoices and receipts for the items purchased using the grant funds.
To apply for the microgrant, eligible applicants must submit an application by March 14, 2025. The application will ask for the applicant’s name, preferred contact information, a breakdown of how they plan to use the grant funds, and optional social media accounts and a headshot. A key component of the application is the "elevator pitch," a short description of the game concept intended to give the voting committee a clear understanding of the applicant’s project and its goals.
Applications will be reviewed and voted on by a selection committee composed of industry professionals with experience in game design, art, and writing. These experts will assess each application based on the creativity, feasibility, and overall potential of the project within the gaming industry. Grant recipients will be notified by the end of June 2025. Applicants who do not receive the grant will not be contacted but are encouraged to reapply the following year.
Winners will be notified via email and will have three weeks to submit receipts for their expenses. In addition to the financial award, recipients will also receive mentorship throughout the grant period. Furthermore, winners will be provided with a free community or demo table at QuestCon Orlando, offering them a valuable opportunity to showcase their game to the public and engage in additional crowdfunding and marketing.
This grant opportunity is open to applicants across the United States. However, international applicants are not eligible. Roll Together Foundation’s official contact for this program is based at their office in Winter Park, Florida, and inquiries can be directed to contact@rolltogether.org.
