Description
The Maine Arts Commission is offering the Organization Operations Grant for 2025, aimed at providing general operating support to arts organizations in Maine. This grant is specifically available to 501(c)(3) arts organizations that have annual operating budgets exceeding $25,000. The primary goal of this funding opportunity is to sustain the arts sector in Maine by supporting the infrastructure and creative workforce. The grant funds can be utilized for eligible operational costs incurred between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.
The purpose of the Organization Operations Grant is to enhance the well-being of arts organizations in Maine. It is designed to support organizations whose mission is centered around the arts. Eligible applicants must demonstrate that the arts are the primary focus of their operations. Organizations that are multipurpose, such as those affiliated with universities or colleges, may apply if they can show that at least 50% of their programming is arts-related and have an independent advisory board. However, entire universities or colleges, individual departments, and organizations primarily focused on fundraising are not eligible for this grant.
Funding for the Organization Operations Grant is set at $7,500. The grant can be used for various operational expenses, including but not limited to facilities costs such as rent and utilities, salaries and wages for personnel, fees for artists and contractual personnel, marketing and promotion costs, general administrative expenses, and costs associated with making programs accessible to individuals with disabilities. The total program funding available for this grant is $25,000, and applicants are required to provide a 1:1 cost share or match, which can consist of cash, donations, or in-kind contributions.
To be eligible for this grant, applicants must meet several criteria. They must be an arts-based nonprofit organization with a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status or a unit of municipal, county, or tribal government legally established in Maine. Non-501(c)(3) organizations cannot apply through a fiscal sponsor. Additionally, applicants must have a primary mission focused on the arts, evidence of operational planning, and have completed at least one fiscal year of programming in Maine. A valid Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) number is also required, and organizations must have an operating budget exceeding $25,000. If applicable, all final reports from previous awards by the Maine Arts Commission must be completed.
The Maine Arts Commission is particularly interested in promoting cultural equity and encourages applications from organizations that serve historically underserved communities, including individuals who speak languages other than English, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, residents of rural areas, and those from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. The Commission aims to expand access to the arts for all residents of Maine and strongly encourages applications from candidates with connections to these communities.
The deadline for submitting applications for the Organization Operations Grant is September 30, 2024. Interested applicants should ensure that they meet all eligibility requirements and prepare their submissions accordingly. For further information, applicants can contact Eli Cabañas at the Maine Arts Commission via email or phone.
