This funding opportunity supports institutions in improving their research administration and infrastructure to promote equity, diversity, and broader participation in the research enterprise across the nation.

Description

The "Growing Research Access for Nationally Transformative Economic Development" (GRANTED) program is a funding opportunity provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The program focuses on addressing challenges and inequalities within the research enterprise by enhancing administrative support and service infrastructure. This initiative emphasizes the importance of developing a resilient, sustainable, equitable, and diverse research enterprise to fully utilize the nation's talent and capabilities. GRANTED does not fund discipline-specific STEM research but instead supports activities that strengthen the administrative and service components of research, such as research development, compliance, human capital, and public-private partnerships.

The purpose of GRANTED is to transform the research enterprise by creating scalable models that address structural barriers and broaden participation. The program invites proposals that focus on enhancing practices and processes, developing human capital, and translating effective research enterprise practices into diverse institutional and organizational contexts. Projects should be institution- or organization-wide and aim to have a national impact. Proposals are expected to identify structural challenges and present innovative strategies to mitigate these challenges.

GRANTED supports activities that generate scalable solutions, diversify project leadership and approaches, and broaden participation in the research enterprise. Institutions of all types, as defined in the NSF Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG), are eligible to apply. Competitive proposals should engage the professional and administrative research workforce in leadership roles and foster collaborations with professional societies and organizations. Projects with nationally scalable models are strongly encouraged.

There are no stated limits for the award ceiling or floor, and cost-sharing is not required. Proposals can be submitted at any time, allowing applicants flexibility in timing. Budgets and project durations should align with the scope of proposed activities and follow the guidelines outlined in the PAPPG. While the total program funding is unspecified, the focus is on supporting projects that advance transformative changes in the research enterprise.

Applicants are encouraged to contact GRANTED personnel at GRANTED@nsf.gov for guidance before submitting proposals. Proposals should align with GRANTED's three main themes and demonstrate institution-wide or national relevance. The program seeks to strengthen the administrative infrastructure of research enterprises, enabling broader participation in the nation's research and discovery opportunities.

The program operates without a specific application deadline, allowing for rolling submissions. Applicants should refer to the NSF's PAPPG for detailed requirements and ensure that proposals clearly articulate the scope, objectives, and expected outcomes of their projects. By funding innovative approaches and fostering collaborations, GRANTED aims to create a more inclusive and competitive research environment in the United States.
