Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation

This funding opportunity supports nonprofit organizations in Louisiana that are focused on improving community health and education through evidence-based projects.

Description

The Special Project Grants, provided by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, support nonprofit organizations that seek to expand their community impact in Louisiana. These grants focus on addressing various issues affecting the health and well-being of Louisiana communities. Funding is intended for organizations that aim to complete an existing project previously funded by the Foundation or strategically expand or implement new efforts based on evidence of need and data-driven strategies.

Eligible applicants must be nonprofit organizations designated under the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity, specifically under IRC 509(a)(1) or (2), or a private operating foundation as defined in IRC 4940(d)(2). Additionally, all applying organizations must be registered and in good standing with the Louisiana Secretary of State. The Foundation only supports health- and education-related programs and does not provide grants or sponsorships for business or advertising sponsorships, brand promotion efforts, individual support, religious programs for religious purposes, political contributions, or events outside Louisiana unless they have a clearly articulated benefit for the state.

The grant provides up to $100,000 in funding per project, distributed in a single payment, and must be used within one year. There is no requirement for matched funds. To apply, organizations must submit an online Letter of Intent (LOI). The Foundation reviews LOI submissions twice annually, with deadlines on March 1 and September 1.

Organizations under contract with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (BCBSLA) for reimbursable services are generally not eligible, though exceptions may be made if the project is for community benefit and does not involve reimbursable services. If applicants have questions regarding the grant or a potential project, they can contact the Foundation via email at BCBSLAFoundation@lablue.com.
