This funding opportunity supports nonprofit organizations, schools, and government entities in Stearns, Benton, and Sherburne Counties to implement programs that benefit youth and reduce crime.

Description

The Thomas Ritsche Youth Grants, offered by the Central Minnesota Community Foundation through the Thomas A. Ritsche for Youth Fund, are designed to support initiatives that benefit youth in Stearns, Benton, and Sherburne Counties. This grant opportunity emphasizes programs and projects that address issues affecting youth, particularly those that reduce crimes against or committed by young people. Applications for the 2025 cycle open on April 1 and close on May 31 at 11:59 p.m., with funding decisions expected within 90 days of the deadline.

The fund supports both program or project expenses and operational support. It welcomes applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, schools, and government entities. The geographic scope is strictly limited to serving residents of the three designated Minnesota counties. Funding requests must fall within the range of $5,000 to $10,000. All grant activity must directly benefit youth and align with the fund’s mission to reduce crime and support positive youth development.

Applications are reviewed by a Grant Advisory Committee, which makes funding recommendations to the Central Minnesota Community Foundation’s Board of Directors. Final decisions are made by the board, and all communication with applicants is conducted via email. The grant payout will be issued following receipt of a signed electronic grant agreement. Grantees are required to submit a final report, and may be asked to submit a progress report as well. These documents must be submitted through the CommunityGiving Grant Management System.

The Foundation has outlined several factors that will be given favorable consideration during the review process. These include a strong impact on crime reduction involving youth, potential for long-term sustainable outcomes, and efforts to build social capital across different segments of the community. Programs that foster inclusion, connectedness, and equity are especially encouraged under the foundation's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy.

There are several funding restrictions. Grants will not be awarded to individuals, religious organizations for religious purposes, political campaigns, or annual fundraising drives. Additional exclusions include endowments, debt reduction, previously completed projects, medical research, travel or conference expenses, and programs replacing government funds that have been cut. Multi-year funding requests are also ineligible.

Questions regarding the grant or the online application process can be directed to the foundation by calling (320) 257-9715. The foundation's main office is located at 101 7th Avenue S., Suite 100, St. Cloud, Minnesota. Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The application portal and additional information can be found on the CommunityGiving website.
