Topology Program PD-22-1267 National Science Foundation
This grant provides funding for researchers and institutions to support innovative projects and events in various areas of topology, including algebraic and differential topology, as well as collaborative activities like conferences and workshops.
Description
The Topology program, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), supports research in algebraic topology, differential topology, and related areas. Key focus areas include homotopy and homology theories, cobordism and K-theory, topological manifolds, cell complexes, knots and links, fiberings, and actions of groups of transformations. The program also encompasses geometric group theory and related research topics. It supports projects advancing fundamental knowledge and methodologies in topology, promoting broader impacts in mathematics and science.
The program also funds conferences, workshops, and educational activities related to topology. Proposals for such events must adhere to the NSF solicitation for "Conferences and Workshops in the Mathematical Sciences," listing topology as the area of interest. Events with budgets up to $50,000 must be submitted at least six months in advance, while those exceeding $50,000 require submission at least eight months ahead. Conference proposal submission windows occur annually from September 1–30 and April 1–30.
The program has unrestricted eligibility, welcoming proposals from all qualified applicants, including institutions and individuals. No cost-sharing or matching funds are required. The estimated total funding and the number of awards are not specified, and award amounts will be based on project scope and merit as determined by NSF peer review.
Applications for research grants are due by November 4, 2025, with earlier deadlines applying to prior cycles. Proposals should outline research objectives, methodologies, and expected impacts. Conference proposals must include detailed budgets and justifications, as well as information about event relevance and objectives.
This program provides significant opportunities for researchers and educators in topology to contribute to advancing the field through innovative projects and collaborative events.
