National HIV Clinical Training for Residents Program

This funding opportunity provides financial support to organizations that will train medical residents in various disciplines to improve their skills in diagnosing and treating HIV, ultimately enhancing healthcare delivery for individuals living with the virus.

The National HIV Clinical Training for Residents Program, administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), is designed to expand the HIV workforce by providing specialized training for medical residents in various disciplines. The program seeks to enhance the capacity of healthcare delivery systems by equipping medical professionals with the skills necessary to diagnose, treat, and link individuals with HIV to care. Through cooperative agreements, the program will provide education, training, and technical assistance to residency programs to prevent and diagnose HIV effectively.

This funding opportunity is projected to be released on April 18, 2025, with applications due by June 18, 2025. The estimated project start date is September 30, 2025. The program is classified under the Minority HIV/AIDS Fund (MHAF) and falls within the Health category of funding activities. HRSA anticipates issuing one award with a total program funding amount of approximately $1,027,600. There are no specified award ceilings or floors, and cost-sharing or matching is not required for applicants.

Eligible applicants include public and state-controlled institutions of higher education, nonprofit organizations with or without a 501(c)(3) status (excluding institutions of higher education), for-profit organizations other than small businesses, federally recognized and non-federally recognized Native American tribal organizations and governments, community-based organizations, and schools or academic health science centers. Eligibility extends to organizations based in the United States and U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau.

The awardee must collaborate with up to eight residency programs to develop and implement educational initiatives targeting key medical disciplines such as internal and family medicine, emergency medicine, obstetrics-gynecology, nurse practitioners, and physician associates. The goal is to build a workforce capable of providing comprehensive care to individuals living with HIV and to support healthcare institutions in their prevention and treatment efforts.

HRSA will oversee this cooperative agreement, ensuring that the recipient provides adequate education, technical assistance, and support to partner residency programs. The program emphasizes expanding knowledge and clinical competencies to address the evolving challenges of HIV diagnosis and care within diverse healthcare settings.
