Big Green

This grant provides resources and support for community organizations in Miami Gardens to help residents grow their own food and improve local health and food accessibility.

Description

In 2022, Big Green received a funding opportunity to bring resources to the Miami area, partnering with Live Healthy Miami Gardens (LHMG) to implement Project Grow. LHMG is a coalition of 46 member organizations and over 100 individuals focused on improving health and life expectancy in Miami Gardens, which has the largest African American population in Florida. The community expressed a need for support in growing their own food, leading to Big Green's involvement through the Million Gardens program, which provides garden beds, materials, and educational programming. The partnership has successfully distributed garden beds and facilitated educational initiatives, enhancing community engagement and food accessibility.
