2025 Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant
This funding opportunity provides financial support to Wisconsin meat processors for expanding operations and improving infrastructure to enhance the state's meat supply chain.
Description
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is currently accepting applications for the Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant. This funding opportunity aims to support Wisconsin meat processors in expanding their operations, improving their infrastructure, and increasing overall processing capacity. The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024. This grant is designed to enhance the resilience of the meat supply chain and ensure the long-term viability of the state’s livestock industry.
The 2023-25 biennial budget signed by Governor Tony Evers allocated an additional $1.6 million to the Meat Processor Infrastructure Program, bringing the total funding available in this round to $1.8 million. These grants are intended to support projects that help alleviate supply chain bottlenecks, expand production capacity, and strengthen the state's meat processing sector.
Eligible applicants must be meat processors currently operating or planning to operate in Wisconsin with a DATCP or U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) license. The projects must focus on increasing harvest capacity or production. The grant funding can be used for various eligible expenses, including engineering, architectural design, construction, food safety consultation, equipment purchase, and equipment installation. Operating expenses directly tied to the grant project are also covered.
Each grant award will be up to $50,000, with a required 100% match from the recipient. The funding is intended for projects lasting up to two years, and awardees will be selected through a competitive process. Grant applications should be submitted to the DATCP Grants Manager, Brian Williams, at datcpdadgrants@wisconsin.gov.
Grant recipients will be announced in May 2024. Application materials and additional details are available on the DATCP website at datcp.wi.gov/Pages/AgDevelopment/MeatProcessorInfrastructureGrants.aspx. This opportunity provides critical support to meat processors looking to expand their operations and contribute to a more resilient and efficient meat supply chain in Wisconsin.
