This grant invites researchers and organizations to propose innovative scientific studies and experiments that advance technology and knowledge in space and missile defense, without focusing on specific hardware or software development.

Description

The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC) Space and Missile Defense Technical Center (SMDTC) has issued a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for Science, Technology, and Test and Evaluation Research, designated W9113M-24-R-BAA1. This BAA seeks innovative scientific study and experimentation to advance state-of-the-art technologies and increase knowledge in fundamental and applied research. It explicitly focuses on basic and applied research, excluding development efforts tied to specific hardware or software procurements.

The BAA welcomes white papers and proposals on specified research topics relevant to the SMDTC mission. While predefined topics are listed in the BAA, proposers may also submit unsolicited white papers if their research aligns with SMDTC’s objectives. However, submissions must avoid system maturation or direct acquisition-related efforts, as proposals strictly for developing specific systems or fulfilling hardware/software requirements will not be considered.

Applicants may submit multiple white papers to specific topics, as confirmed in the official Q&A document. Each submission undergoes a screening process to determine relevance to the SMDTC mission. The government reserves the right to evaluate and select white papers and proposals at its discretion, and responses provided in the Q&A document are informational only and non-binding.

The evaluation process follows a multi-step approach, where white papers are first reviewed, and if deemed relevant, proposers may be invited to submit full proposals. The BAA remains open for submission, with research topics updated regularly. Applicants are advised to monitor the BAA portal for updates and topic refinements.

For submission details, eligibility requirements, and research focus areas, applicants should refer to the full BAA document and associated updates provided by SMDTC.
