ROSES 2025: A.31 ECOSTRESS Science and Applications Team

This funding opportunity provides support for U.S. research teams to utilize ECOSTRESS data in studying terrestrial ecosystems and their responses to climate change, with applications in agriculture, water management, and disaster response.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) has released the Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) – 2025 funding opportunity, specifically for the A.31 ECOSTRESS Science and Applications Team. This announcement is part of NASA’s annual omnibus solicitation, which includes multiple program elements covering a broad range of basic and applied research in space and Earth sciences. The solicitation supports scientific studies that advance knowledge and application of ECOSTRESS (Ecosystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on Space Station) data to improve understanding of terrestrial ecosystems, their responses to climate and environmental changes, and applications in areas such as agriculture, water resource management, and disaster response.

Funding will be awarded primarily as grants and cooperative agreements. The typical period of performance is three years, though some projects may be eligible for up to five years. Awards are expected to support research teams engaged in scientific studies that utilize ECOSTRESS data for applications in Earth science and related fields. No cost-sharing or matching funds are required for participation in this opportunity.

Eligible applicants must be affiliated with institutions registered in the NASA Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System (NSPIRES). While funding is generally available only to U.S. institutions, non-U.S. organizations may participate on a no-exchange-of-funds basis or under specific conditions outlined in the NASA Proposer’s Guide. Additional details on eligibility, proposal requirements, and program-specific guidelines are available in the full announcement, which can be accessed via NASA's online resources.

Applicants are encouraged to submit an optional Notice of Intent by May 15, 2025. The final deadline for full proposals is June 16, 2025. Proposers must retrieve the required instructions document from NSPIRES, as at least one mandatory form must be attached to the proposal submission. Submissions via Grants.gov will only be accepted if requested at least 30 days before the due date.
