June is Fatherhood Month
This grant provides funding to eligible local governments and nonprofit organizations in Ohio to host events that promote responsible fatherhood and strengthen father-child relationships during June 2025.
Description
The Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY), in collaboration with the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood (OCF), is offering a grant opportunity in recognition of "June is Responsible Fatherhood Month." This initiative aims to promote the engagement of fathers in the lives of their children by funding father-child events throughout June 2025. Up to ten (10) mini-grants will be awarded to eligible government entities and nonprofit organizations to host these events, which must emphasize responsible fatherhood, positive father-child interactions, and the provision of supportive resources for fathers.
Each grant award will be in the amount of $3,000, and all funds will be disbursed on a reimbursement basis. The funding must be used strictly for expenses incurred in June 2025, as advanced funding is not permitted. Allowable expenditures include, but are not limited to, purchasing fatherhood curricula, renting event equipment, promotional materials, keynote speakers, limited food and beverage expenses, entertainment, and health care activities. Unallowable expenses include gambling-related activities, alcohol, and any other prohibited substances. Gift cards may be used under strict tracking and reporting requirements.
Eligible applicants include city and local governments, nonprofit organizations, community-based and juvenile correctional facilities, faith-based associations, and other similar entities. Organizations must be a registered government entity or a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and must provide proof of their tax-exempt status. They must also be registered with the Ohio state vendor system (OAKS) and complete necessary compliance documents, such as the Standard Affirmation and Disclosure Form. Additionally, applicants proposing in-person events must submit a virtual alternative plan to ensure flexibility in the case of public health or safety restrictions.
The application period begins on March 17, 2025, and closes on April 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Applicants may submit inquiries regarding the grant until April 8, 2025. Applications must be submitted electronically via email with all required documents in a single PDF attachment. Awarded applicants will be notified in time to begin their projects by June 1, 2025, and all expenditures must be completed by June 30, 2025.
Funded projects must meet key requirements, including incorporating an informational session on responsible fatherhood, facilitating engaging father-child activities, and collaborating with local service providers to offer additional resources. Organizations receiving the grant must also comply with the branding and reporting guidelines set forth by DCY and OCF, including participation in a social media campaign showcasing event activities.
Selected applicants will be required to sign a grant agreement and adhere to all financial reporting and monitoring guidelines. All reimbursements will be processed based on verified allowable expenditures. Preference may be given to organizations that have not previously received funding from OCF or that serve underrepresented counties. The funding for this initiative is contingent upon the availability of state funds, and DCY reserves the right to modify or cancel the grant award process at its discretion.
