2025 Black and Brown Artist Grant for Individual Artists

The FY2025 Black and Brown Artist Grant is a program by ArtsWave, aimed at supporting individual Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists in the Greater Cincinnati region. This grant provides financial assistance for artists to create projects that explore the themes of Truth and Innovation, building on the artistic commentary surrounding health, race, and visions of an equitable future. The grant encourages artistic development while showcasing these themes to the community in July 2025.
Key Details:
Grant Amount: Artists can apply for either $5,000 or $10,000.
Application Deadline: November 1, 2024, by 5:00 PM.
Showcase: Projects must be designed for a public showcase in July 2025.
Eligibility:
Applicants: Must be an individual artist (sole proprietor or sole member of an LLC), at least 18 years old, and identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color.
Residency: Must have lived in one of the 15 counties in the Greater Cincinnati area for at least one year prior to January 1, 2024.
Artist Income: Must have reported taxable income as an artist or have a verifiable body of work (e.g., digital work samples, website).
Artists who received this grant in FY2023 and FY2024 are not eligible to apply for FY2025.
Project Requirements:
Projects must align with the Truth and Innovation theme, addressing topics such as social justice, Black Lives Matter, Indigenous sovereignty, and environmental justice.
Must include a plan for showcasing the work in July 2025.
Participation in an artist cohort, including attending monthly meetings and adhering to deadlines, is required.
Eligible Expenses:
Artist fees, fees for collaborators, materials, supplies, marketing, professional learning, and other project-related expenses.
Application Process:
Applications must be submitted online via Submittable by November 1, 2024.
Applicants may attend a grant information session and drop-in support sessions to assist with the application process.
