Kentucky Pride Fund Recycling Grant 2025-2026
This funding opportunity provides financial support to local governments and organizations in Kentucky for developing recycling infrastructure and educational programs to promote effective waste management and recycling initiatives.
Description
The 2025-2026 Kentucky Pride Fund Recycling Grant is a funding opportunity managed by the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, Department for Environmental Protection, Division of Waste Management. This grant is designed to support the development of integrated recycling infrastructure and public education programs on recycling across the state. The goal is to promote efficient and cost-effective recycling initiatives that contribute to sustainable waste management in Kentucky.
The grant was established through Senate Bill 50 in 2006, as part of the Kentucky Pride Fund, which is funded by a $1.75 fee per ton of municipal solid waste disposed of in Kentucky landfills. The grant program funds recycling equipment purchases, public education efforts, and regional collaborations that improve waste reduction and recycling capabilities. Priority is given to projects that demonstrate regional cooperation, particularly those with state-approved interlocal agreements.
Eligible applicants include counties, waste management districts, cities, urban-county governments, school districts, and other political subdivisions of the state. Applicants are required to provide a minimum 25% local match, which can be in the form of cash or in-kind contributions such as labor, educational activities, or promotional efforts. Only one application per project is allowed.
Grant funds may be used for purchasing recycling equipment such as balers, conveyors, forklifts, collection trailers, and community recycling bins, as well as for education and advertising related to recycling programs. However, funds cannot be used for general operating expenses, utilities, construction, permit fees, or the purchase of vehicles.
The application deadline is April 1, 2025, at 4:00 PM. Applications must be postmarked, hand-delivered, or emailed to williamt.collins@ky.gov. The grant period runs from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, with quarterly progress reports due on October 15, 2025; January 15, 2026; and April 15, 2026, and a final report due by July 15, 2026. Awarded funds must be spent by June 30, 2026, unless an extension is granted. Non-compliance with grant terms may result in repayment of funds and ineligibility for future grants.
