Wetlands Restoration Grant

Ceiling: $800,000
Local
County of Maui

This funding opportunity provides financial support to organizations focused on restoring wetlands in Maui County, promoting environmental sustainability and community well-being.

Description

EP&S provides two main funding programs, the Recycling Grants Program and the Green Grants Program, to support environmental initiatives that promote sustainability and conservation. Both programs are guided by the principle of Malama 'Aina and aim to foster projects that enhance community well-being through sustainable practices.

The Recycling Grants Program has an estimated budget of $500,000 and supports projects focused on landfill diversion, zero-waste initiatives, and the expansion of recycling programs. Funding is available for educational programs, equipment upgrades, materials collection, and waste processing projects. However, applications for the FY25 cycle are currently closed.

The Green Grants Program, which has recently expanded with an additional $1.7 million, funds innovative projects that contribute to environmental sustainability, natural resource protection, and restoration efforts. The program encourages proposals led by women, youth, and those incorporating traditional Native Hawaiian practices. The expansion follows the allocation of $3.3 million for projects managing invasive species, protecting wetlands, controlling predators at seabird colonies, and monitoring coastal water quality. Applications are open to individuals, for-profit, and nonprofit organizations, with proposals due by July 29, 2024.

Several funding categories are available within the Green Grants Program. The Environmental Protection Grant, with a total of $490,000 available for FY25, includes up to $10,000 for beautification projects in the Waikapū community. The Wetlands Restoration Grant provides $800,000 to organizations focused on restoring wetlands in Maui County. The Renewable Energy Grant offers $100,000 to support projects that promote energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives. Additionally, the Green Building and Resilient Housing Grant provides $100,000 to encourage sustainable building practices, with $56,000 allocated for projects involved in the Living Building Challenge. The Equipment Purchase Grant assists organizations in acquiring essential equipment for sustainability projects across all of these areas.

All proposals will be evaluated by the Green Grants Review Committee, with consideration given to how well they align with program objectives, their feasibility, innovation, and potential impact. Applicants will be informed of the results by August 26, 2024. Before submitting proposals electronically through the grant platform, applicants are encouraged to consult the Green Grants Guide for detailed instructions and requirements.
