Description

The STEM Workforce Challenge Grant Round XV aims to foster sustainable partnerships between industry and workforce training providers in Nevada. These partnerships will develop programs to provide in-demand, industry-recognized STEM skills, leading to full-time employment in STEM fields. Eligible applicants include Nevada's community colleges, private career colleges, Chambers of Commerce, organizations specializing in workforce training, Regional Development Authorities, STEM-related businesses, employee associations, and city and county governments. Proposals are due by August 26, 2024, with $425,000 available in funding.

Electrical Joint Apprentice Training Committee of Southern Nevada (EJATC of SNV) was awarded $243,503.00 for the Building Revolutionary Integrations through Graphical Holograms and Technology (BRIGHT) Initiative. EJATC SNV will acquire necessary Building information Modeling (BIM) Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) technology and student accessible software and devices to enhance and update current training methodology. Acquiring this equipment will enhance training to keep pace with technology already being used by employers on jobsites. Program completers will earn a Building Information Modeling (BIM) Credential. To earn the credential, participants demonstrate expertise in BIM Fundamentals, BIM Software Proficiency, Modeling Skills, Collaboration and Coordination, Data Management, Documentation and Visualization, BIM Implementation and Standards, and BIM Project Management. Project partners include College of Southern Nevada, who provides college credits to students for completing EJATC classes, Workforce Connections, who refers job seekers to EJATC SNV, and IBEW 357, who provides oversight of the program and community outreach. Funding will be used for BIM VR equipment and training for instructors to use the equipment. The Northern Nevada Electric Joint Apprentice Training Committee (NNEJATC) was awarded $160,858.00 to update infrastructure in response to requests from industry. Funding will be used to upgrade classrooms for remote and distance learning for electrical instruction, Journeymen upgrade classes, safety training, and craft certification. Proposed work projects throughout Northern Nevada, such as retrofitting/updating mining facilities, solar systems installations, Thacker Pass, Ryland, Velmy Power Plant retrofitting, and the installation of EV charging stations throughout the state will benefit from new methods of instruction, training, and education, utilized to hire and retain qualified individuals in the construction field.
