Philadelphia Foundation’s Edna W. Andrade Grants
This grant provides financial support to nonprofit art organizations and museums in the Greater Philadelphia area to promote visual fine arts through exhibitions, commissions, and community projects.
Description
The Edna W. Andrade Grants, administered through a donor-advised fund of the Philadelphia Foundation, support nonprofit art organizations and museums that work with visual fine artists from the Greater Philadelphia area. Established through the estate of Edna W. Andrade—a prominent Philadelphia artist and teacher associated with the Op Art movement—this program upholds her legacy by empowering visual artists and advancing their work through exhibitions, commissions, and community-oriented projects.
Grants range from $5,000 to $25,000 and are awarded to local or national museums and nonprofit arts organizations that seek to either purchase or commission artworks, fund one-person exhibitions, or support community and educational art initiatives by individual artists or collectives. The program is explicitly focused on visual fine arts—painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and sculpture—and excludes performing arts.
To be eligible, organizations must hold 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and have a track record of at least three professional public exhibits or projects in the last five years. The organization must also have a non-discrimination policy covering legally protected categories, and religious institutions may only apply for nonsectarian activities. Applicants may not use the funds for completed projects, and the program does not fund private foundations, government entities, intermediary agencies, endowment or capital projects, or advocacy/lobbying efforts.
The eligible geographical scope is defined as Pennsylvania’s Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, and New Jersey’s Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Mercer counties.
The application period opens in April 2025, with a final deadline of May 7, 2025. Awards are expected to be released in June 2025. Applications must be submitted through the Philadelphia Foundation’s new grant platform. Interested applicants should create an account, complete the required forms, and submit an application through the Andrade Grant Application portal. After receiving funding, grantees must submit a final report including a budget and narrative assessing project impact.
