WV Energy Efficiency Impact Grant
This program provides financial support to small businesses in West Virginia for energy efficiency upgrades, helping them reduce energy costs and consumption.
Description
The West Virginia Energy Efficiency Impact Grant is a micro-grant program designed to assist small businesses in West Virginia with implementing energy efficiency upgrades. This program is a partnership between the Jackson County Development Authority and the West Virginia Office of Energy. The grant offers a one-time award of up to $3,000 per business, with no repayment required unless the recipient fails to meet compliance requirements. A total of twelve grants will be awarded in the first funding round, and businesses are limited to one award each. This is not a loan, and the funding is strictly for approved energy efficiency improvements.
The grant aims to support businesses in reducing energy costs and improving sustainability through upgrades such as insulation, energy-efficient lighting, HVAC system improvements, weather sealing, and the purchase and installation of ENERGY STAR-certified appliances, including furnaces and air conditioners. These upgrades help businesses lower their energy consumption while contributing to broader energy efficiency goals in the state.
To be eligible, businesses must be registered in good standing with the State of West Virginia, have a physical location within the state, and have been established on or before May 1, 2019. Additional requirements include having no more than 15 full-time employees as of April 1, 2020, and generating $1 million or less in profits in 2019. Businesses must also have no pre-existing tax liens or legal judgments. Ineligible entities include home-based businesses, churches, nonprofits, banks, financial institutions, investment real estate businesses, and government agencies.
Applications will be reviewed by the Jackson County Development Authority and the West Virginia Office of Energy, with final decisions made by the review committee. Successful applicants must complete a disbursement form, provide receipts for eligible expenses, and agree to being featured in marketing and promotional materials. The application process is confidential, and businesses are encouraged to use a desktop computer with a Chrome browser and JavaScript enabled for optimal performance.
The program highlights the state's commitment to supporting small businesses while promoting energy efficiency. Interested businesses can contact the West Virginia Office of Energy for more details or visit their official website. This grant represents a valuable opportunity for small businesses seeking financial support to make environmentally responsible improvements to their operations.
