The 2024 Student Success Barrier Removal-Direct to Students Grant aims to support Michigan's postsecondary institutions in eliminating financial barriers that hinder student success. This grant provides emergency aid and direct support to students, covering expenses such as childcare, transportation, housing, food, textbooks, internet, and other program supplies. Eligible applicants include community colleges, tribal colleges, public colleges and universities, and nonprofit organizations in partnership with these institutions. The grant's award amounts are formula-based, dependent on the number of Pell-eligible students. Applications are due on March 22, June 7, August 16, and November 8.

The goal of this grant is to help more learners, especially those historically marginalized, to enroll and graduate by addressing barriers to completion. Evaluation criteria focus on the efficiency of fund distribution, cross-silo collaboration, and impact tracking. Award amounts are calculated based on the percentage of Pell-eligible students and can range up to $418,800 for colleges with high Pell eligibility rates. Nonprofit organizations can receive up to $50,000 if applying independently. Funds must be spent within two years, with at least 75% of the budget directed to students.
