This grant type aims to support the creation of new child care slots in licensed spaces that have not been previously licensed, focusing specifically on high-needs counties. The grant encourages the start-up of new child care facilities, thereby increasing the availability of child care in designated areas. Applicants must be owners of child care programs, work with a Child Care Aware Start-up Coordinator and Health and Safety Specialist for a minimum of 45 days at the point of application, and submit their application within 60 days of the new license being issued. The grant supports various licensed capacities with awards up to $100,000.
