Fall Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation Fall Grant Cycle
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in specific eastern U.S. states for projects that focus on human needs, environmental stewardship, education, and community vitality.
Description
The Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation provides grant funding to support non-profit organizations that align with its four core focus areas: human needs, environmental stewardship, education, and community vitality. The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Dominion Energy, which serves a significant portion of the eastern United States and maintains a strong presence in the regions where it provides electricity or natural gas services or holds substantial business interests.
Eligible applicants for these grants must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations operating within specific geographic boundaries, namely Virginia, South Carolina, northeastern North Carolina, Connecticut, Rhode Island (specifically Kent and Washington Counties), and West Virginia (limited to Grant and Tucker Counties). Recent corporate transitions have excluded organizations in Ohio, Utah, and parts of North Carolina now served by Enbridge Gas from eligibility.
Grant awards typically range from $1,000 to $15,000, although exceptions may be made for proposals that closely align with the Foundation’s goals. Funding is limited, and not all worthy proposals can be accommodated due to budget constraints. The Foundation clearly states it does not typically fund capital campaigns, university research, or endowment of academic chairs.
Applications are accepted during two cycles annually—spring and fall. The spring 2025 cycle opened on January 13 and closed on February 24, with decision notifications expected in May. The fall 2025 cycle will open on August 4 and close on September 15, with decisions communicated in November. Applications must be submitted online, and new requirements for 2025 include a complete and updated profile on the Benevity Causes Portal, including an active Self-Certification Declaration.
Virtual office hours are provided during each grant cycle to support nonprofit applicants, especially regarding questions about the application process and the Benevity platform. However, grants will not be awarded to individuals, religious programs, political or advocacy groups, or those requesting funding for advertising, travel, or memorial campaigns.
For assistance with the application process or issues regarding Benevity profiles, applicants are advised to submit a Help ticket. No specific contact person is listed, but general inquiries can be directed through the Contact Us portal on the Dominion Energy website.
