Energy Storage Integration Prize

Local
U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)

This competition provides funding to companies and coalitions developing innovative technologies that improve the integration of energy storage systems with the electricity grid, promoting a more efficient and sustainable energy future.

Description

The Beyond the Meter: Energy Storage Integration Prize is a one-phase competition funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Electricity (OE). The prize aims to highlight innovative grid-edge technology solutions that enhance the integration and interaction of energy storage systems (ESS) with the broader electricity grid. As the grid transitions from a traditional one-way system to a two-way system, driven by the increasing use of clean energy and decentralized power sources, there is a need for technologies that enable efficient, resilient, and sustainable integration of these resources.

Challenge Objectives:
Participants will need to:

Demonstrate how their behind-the-meter grid-edge technology supports improved integration with different energy systems and vendors in the grid.
Provide a detailed plan for partnering and integrating with grid-edge technology vendors.
Present a strategy for showcasing their technology and collaborating with industry leaders at DISTRIBUTECH 2025 in Dallas.
Prizes:
Up to two teams will each win $100,000 and receive an exclusive opportunity to showcase their technology at the DISTRIBUTECH 2025 conference on March 25, 2025. Winners will also benefit from ample booth space provided by the DOE for product demonstrations, networking opportunities, and potential partnerships with grid-edge vendors through a dedicated "speed-dating" event.

GRIT Prize Series:
The Beyond the Meter Prize is part of the broader Grid Resource Integration Technologies (GRIT) Prize Series, which aims to promote partnerships that enhance grid-edge technology integration, contributing to a more efficient and reliable energy grid.

Eligibility:
The competition is open to companies and coalitions currently working on behind-the-meter grid-edge technology solutions. Full eligibility details and application instructions can be found in the Official Rules.

How to Participate:
Review the Official Rules for detailed guidelines.
