RFA R-25.2 CFSA Core Facility Support Awards

State
Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas

This funding opportunity provides up to $2 million to Texas institutions for developing or improving core facilities that enhance cancer research and collaboration across the state.

Description

The Texas Regional Excellence in Cancer (TREC): Core Facility Support Awards (CFSA) program, offered by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), provides up to $2 million over five years to eligible Texas institutions for creating or enhancing core facilities that support cancer research. These facilities aim to advance knowledge in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or survivorship and are expected to benefit Texas-based cancer research efforts. Applications are open until December 10, 2024, and awards are set to start on June 1, 2025.

Eligible applicants are limited to TREC-approved institutions, and each institution can submit only one application, except in cases focused on childhood and adolescent cancers or population science, where two applications are permitted. The program prioritizes facilities that serve multiple Texas institutions, fostering collaborations that align with CPRIT’s goals to strengthen cancer research infrastructure, promote scientific excellence, and reduce cancer incidence.

Funding supports expenses including equipment, facility renovations, staffing, and technical expertise, but limits indirect costs to 5% of the total award. Facilities are expected to develop a cost recovery plan, offer training for users, and ensure sustainability post-grant. The application requires a comprehensive project proposal, timeline, budget, and institutional commitment letter. Institutions must also demonstrate available matching funds covering half of the requested CPRIT funds.

Evaluation criteria include the facility's potential impact on cancer research, institutional support, administration quality, and technical expertise. Applications are reviewed by CPRIT's peer review panel, with recommendations made by the CPRIT Oversight Committee. Final awards require approval at a public meeting, maintaining transparency and compliance with Texas state guidelines.
