Description
The City of Phoenix is offering the Canopy for Kids Grant to public school districts, nonprofit schools, and nonprofit organizations within Qualified Census Tracts in Phoenix. The grant aims to improve tree canopy coverage at public schools and properties managed by eligible organizations. The funding will support tree planting projects to enhance the urban forest, mitigate the urban heat island effect, and promote resiliency among youth in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Grants may range from $10,000 to $75,000 per site with a total available funding of $2,000,000 for 2023-2024. Eligible uses of funds include staff time, supplies, contractual services, volunteer coordination, event management, species selection guidance, and educational activities. Eligible applicants must meet specific location and service criteria within Qualified Census Tracts or demonstrate a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced lunches.
