Call for Artists for Downtown Arts Programs in North Carolina
This grant provides opportunities and funding for visual artists residing in Greensboro to showcase their work in public spaces and contribute to the city's cultural landscape.
Description
The Downtown Arts Program, managed by Creative Greensboro, supports and showcases Greensboro’s visual arts community by integrating original artwork into the downtown environment. Open to full-time Greensboro residents practicing painting, sculpture, drawing, glass, photography, digital arts, or fiber arts, the program offers two distinct opportunities for artists. Applications for both opportunities are due by 11:59 PM on December 9, 2024.
The Art on Downtown Kiosks initiative selects ten artists to display their artwork digitally on 11 electronic kiosks located throughout downtown Greensboro. Each selected artist receives a $500 honorarium, and their artwork will be featured for up to 10 weeks between February 2025 and January 2026. This platform highlights local talent while enhancing the urban landscape with creative visuals.
The Art in City Hall project awards a $3,000 commission to one artist to create a new, original piece that interprets the theme "Greensboro in 2024". The commissioned artwork will become part of Greensboro’s permanent art collection and will be displayed periodically in public spaces. An enlarged reproduction of the piece will be installed in the Melvin Municipal Office Building (MMOB) from June 2025 to June 2026, offering a prominent platform for the artist’s vision.
Artists are encouraged to review the detailed submission requirements and selection process outlined in the Downtown Arts Call for Artists. These opportunities provide local artists with a chance to share their work, gain recognition, and contribute to Greensboro’s vibrant cultural identity.
