2024 Farm Support Grants

Ceiling: $25,000

Food Well Alliance

This program provides financial support to small-scale, sustainable farms in metro Atlanta to improve their operations and enhance their contributions to the local food system.

Description

Food Well Alliance’s 2025 Farm Grants program is designed to support small-scale, sustainable farms in metro Atlanta by offering two types of funding opportunities: the $25,000 Farm Forward Grant for significant improvement projects and the $8,000 Farm Support Grant for smaller initiatives. With a total of $274,000 in grant funds, the program helps farmers enhance infrastructure, expand production, purchase essential equipment, cover personnel costs, and access professional services or training. Farmers are encouraged to apply for both grants but will receive funding for only one.

Eligible applicants include registered farm operations in Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, or Gwinnett counties that consistently provide food to the community through local sales or donation channels. Applicants must submit documentation of their business license or tax-exempt status and may combine grant funding with additional sources to complete their projects. The Farm Forward Grant requires a detailed plan for a specific project, while the Farm Support Grant focuses on addressing smaller operational needs. Funds must be utilized by October 31, 2025, with a final report submitted in November 2025.

Applications are open through January 12, 2025, at 11:59 PM, and site visits may occur in late January or early February. Decisions will be announced in late February. Food Well Alliance also offers ongoing resources such as compost delivery and mechanical support, which recipients can use alongside grant funding. A strong application should clearly outline the farm’s role in the local food system, describe its challenges, and propose how the grant will address those obstacles to advance the farm’s mission.
