The A.L. Lewis Black Opportunity & Impact Fund provides grants to nonprofit organizations and programs operating in predominantly Black neighborhoods within Duval County, Florida. The fund aims to empower local communities by supporting projects that enhance health, education, and economic opportunities. Grants are available for up to $2,000 per project. These funds are designed to foster community collaboration by leveraging the skills and expertise of residents to address local challenges and opportunities.
The primary objective of the fund is to support initiatives that create a tangible and positive impact within specific zip codes in Jacksonville, including 32202, 32204, 32206, 32208, 32209, 32218, and 32254. Eligible organizations must demonstrate a focus on one or more of the following areas: health, education, and economic opportunity. Volunteer-led organizations and those with an annual operating budget under $150,000 will be prioritized, ensuring the funds directly benefit grassroots efforts and smaller-scale projects.
To apply, nonprofit organizations must have active 501(c)(3) status as a public charity, private operating foundation, or religious institution. Alternatively, applicants may work with a fiscal agent that holds 501(c)(3) status. The application process is straightforward, with support available from the fund's administrators to assist applicants in-person, virtually, or by phone. The grant application opened on January 6, 2025, and will close on February 14, 2025, at 11:59 PM.
Grant decisions will be communicated in April 2025, with funded projects required to take place between April 2025 and March 31, 2026. Organizations interested in applying are encouraged to utilize the available resources for assistance to ensure their submissions meet the fund's requirements and priorities.
