Black Resilience in Colorado Fund Grant
This grant provides financial support to Black-led and Black-serving nonprofit organizations in the Metro Denver area that address urgent community needs and promote long-term sustainability in Black communities.
Description
The Black Resilience in Colorado (BRIC) Fund, administered by The Denver Foundation, is a targeted grantmaking initiative aimed at addressing systemic racism and its long-term impacts on Black communities in Colorado. The fund serves as a sustainable resource dedicated to supporting Black-led and Black-serving nonprofit organizations throughout the seven-county Metro Denver region. Through its community-centered approach, BRIC supports both immediate needs and the long-term sustainability of the organizations working toward equity and justice for Black Coloradans.
The BRIC Fund will accept applications for its Spring 2025 cycle from March 3 to April 15. A second grant cycle will be held in the summer, running from June 1 to July 15. Each nonprofit is allowed to submit only one application per calendar year, regardless of cycle. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $25,000. Funding decisions are made by a community-led advisory committee that aligns grantmaking with issues identified by community voices and leaders.
Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofits or have a qualified 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor. Additionally, applicants must be both Black-led and Black-serving, including organizations serving people of African and Afro-Caribbean descent, immigrants, and refugees. Organizations must be located in and serve communities within the seven-county Metro Denver region and must have an annual operating budget of $1.5 million or less.
Proposals must align with one or more BRIC priority areas: emerging community issues and needs; health, including racial trauma, maternal health, and loss of medical benefits; housing and homelessness prevention; economic opportunity such as business and workforce development; racial justice, including policy reform and advocacy; and youth empowerment, including youth-led or culturally responsive programming.
Ineligible expenses include capital campaigns, endowments, regranting, special events, religious or political activities, travel, research, and general fundraising campaigns. Multi-year funding requests will not be considered, and prior funding does not guarantee future grants.
Applicants must register and submit proposals through The Denver Foundation’s online portal during the open application windows. For additional information or assistance, applicants are encouraged to contact LaDawn Sullivan at lsullivan@bricfund.org.
