2024 Planning Grant for long-term Holistic Improvement in Indiana
This grant provides funding to Indiana communities for planning projects that promote long-term improvements and address local priorities, requiring a minimum local match of 10% of the total project cost.
Description
The Planning Grant Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), aims to assist communities in Indiana with planning initiatives that promote long-term, comprehensive improvements. The program supports projects that align with Section 105(a) of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 and are focused on addressing established community priorities. The objective is to foster projects that can significantly impact community development and demonstrate a strong local commitment to the project’s goals and sustainability.
To be competitive, applicants must show that their proposed planning projects meet several criteria: alignment with a federal goal, clear relevance to long-term local priorities, the potential for a significant impact through the grant funds, evidence of local support and commitment to sustainability, and readiness to proceed with project implementation. Projects are expected to be completed within 12 months of receiving the grant.
The current application period for the 2024 fourth quarter closes on November 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. ET. It is recommended that applicants submit their applications by 4 p.m. ET on the deadline day to ensure technical support is available if needed. Applications are submitted through the Indiana Electronic Grants Management System, and detailed instructions for the application process are available.
Grant awards vary depending on the type of planning project proposed, but applicants should not view the maximum grant amount as a target. The Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) will review each application based on the appropriateness of the project scope, demonstrated community need, and the applicant's financial resources. The program requires a minimum local match of 10% of the total project cost, which must be secured to be considered for funding.
Applicants are encouraged to work closely with local OCRA community liaisons to ensure their projects meet all requirements and have the best chance for funding. For questions or further information regarding the Planning Grant Program, applicants can contact the program staff via email at CDBG@ocra.in.gov. The grants aim to provide communities with the necessary resources to effectively plan and execute development initiatives that benefit local residents and foster sustainable growth.
