Art Partnership Grant Program
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations and certain public or tribal government units in Iowa to support collaborative arts projects and events that enhance access to the arts and improve services for residents.
Description
The Arts Partnership Grant, administered by the Iowa Arts Council under the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), provides discretionary grant awards to support projects aligned with strategic goals and funding priorities outlined in the Iowa Arts Council 2022–2026 Strategic Plan. The program is designed to strengthen Iowa’s arts sector by supporting collaborations, statewide events, and projects that broaden access to the arts and enhance services through strategic partnerships.
This grant is distinct from other Iowa Arts Council funding opportunities, as it does not support events centered on the creation or presentation of artwork. Instead, the Arts Partnership Grant prioritizes two categories of eligible projects: regional and statewide arts events and conferences, and strategic alignment projects. The first category supports large-scale convenings that foster collaboration, provide professional development, and elevate arts learning and leadership across Iowa. The second category funds strategic partnerships between nonprofit arts or cultural organizations—or between such organizations and the Iowa Arts Council—that aim to expand access to the arts and improve services for Iowans.
Eligibility for this grant is limited to nonprofit organizations and certain public or tribal government units that are physically located in Iowa or a qualifying border community. Applicants must be incorporated in Iowa, maintain a registered office and paid full-time staff in the state, and meet specific criteria related to their organizational purpose, such as advancing the arts, history, culture, or tourism. Educational institutions and K-12 schools may also apply, provided their primary mission is educational.
Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 for regional and statewide events and up to $20,000 for strategic alignment projects. Applicants are required to submit their applications online through SlideRoom by June 30, 2025. It is strongly recommended that potential applicants contact the Iowa Arts Council in advance to discuss project eligibility and alignment with program goals.
Applicants must complete a final report at the end of the grant period to demonstrate the project's impact on arts and culture in Iowa. David Schmitz, Director of the Iowa Arts Council, is the primary point of contact for the program and is available to assist with questions and eligibility discussions.
