Applications Due: June 15, 2025
Private
Sundt Foundation

This grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations in specific U.S. regions that focus on youth development, military and veterans' services, hunger and nutrition, and basic human needs.

Description

The Sundt Foundation, established in 1999, is the charitable arm of Sundt Construction, created to reflect its employee-owners' dedication to supporting the communities in which they live and work. Operating for over 25 years, the Foundation distributes over $2 million annually to a diverse group of charitable organizations throughout the United States. It is primarily funded through employee donations, which are matched dollar-for-dollar by Sundt Construction, and guided by a deep commitment to grassroots philanthropy through employee-led regional committees.

The Foundation offers quarterly grant opportunities for recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations operating in specific geographic regions. These giving communities include Tempe/Phoenix, Tucson, El Paso, North Texas, Central Texas, Sacramento, Irvine, San Diego, Salt Lake City, Charlotte, Florida, and the Pacific Northwest. Priority is given to proposals addressing youth development, military and veterans’ services, hunger and nutrition, and basic human needs, although a broad range of social issues are considered. Local Sundt employee committees in each community review and determine funding recipients.

Grants are awarded quarterly with application deadlines on March 15, June 15, September 15, and December 15 each year. There is no indication of a rolling or recurring funding cycle outside of this quarterly schedule. The application process is conducted through an online platform, where applicants must sign up to submit grant proposals. Detailed instructions and FAQs are available to guide prospective applicants through the process.

In addition to the quarterly grant program, the Sundt Foundation also issues discretionary emergency and disaster relief grants to aid communities affected by significant events such as natural disasters or pandemics. In 2024, the Foundation awarded $40,000 in relief grants for recovery efforts after Hurricanes Helene and Milton, showcasing its readiness to respond to urgent community needs.

The Foundation also organizes annual fundraising events, particularly golf tournaments and sporting competitions, to support its mission. These events occur in several of the Foundation’s giving regions, including Tempe/Phoenix, Tucson, North Texas, San Diego, and Irvine, with additional events planned for future years in other areas. These efforts have collectively raised more than $2.6 million since the fundraising events began in 2001.

Physical mail, including donations, can be sent to The Sundt Foundation, Attn: Donations, 2015 W River Rd, Suite 101, Tucson, AZ, 85704. All donations are tax-deductible as the Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
