Description
The Washington County Tourism Grant Program, managed by the Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency (WCTPA), invites applications from eligible tourism-related entities in Washington County, Pennsylvania. This grant supports initiatives that promote tourism through targeted marketing programs and capital projects. The application deadline is November 12, 2024, with the grant period running from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.
For-profit entities may apply for funding to support specific events or unique activities through targeted marketing programs aimed at non-local audiences. General marketing support for for-profits is not eligible. Nonprofit entities can request funding for both capital projects and marketing initiatives. Eligible capital projects must enhance visitors’ experiences by developing or improving local attractions or amenities, such as historic restorations, signage, or facility upgrades. Nonprofits must own or hold a long-term lease or easement for the property involved. Marketing programs must target audiences outside Washington County and may include promotional materials, advertising, website enhancements, and other tourism awareness efforts.
Applicants must meet specific matching fund requirements. For-profit entities are required to provide a 50% match from other funding sources, while nonprofit organizations must provide a 25% match, which can include in-kind contributions. Volunteer work for nonprofits is valued at $20 per hour and must be documented. Grants will not cover expenses such as staff salaries, routine maintenance, operational costs, or resale items.
Applications are evaluated based on criteria including potential to attract overnight stays, ability to draw visitors from outside Washington County, capacity to generate cross-spending and repeat visits, and historical success where applicable. Start-up organizations and inaugural events with well-developed plans are encouraged to apply. A comprehensive budget and quotes for all proposed activities are required.
Grant recipients must complete their projects and expenditures by December 31, 2025, unless an extension is requested by November 1, 2025. Successful applicants are required to sign a grant agreement and provide documentation of expenses and proof of payment for fund disbursement. Each grant cycle is contingent on available funding, and recipients are not guaranteed ongoing support.
