U.S. Agency for International Development

This initiative seeks input from stakeholders, including researchers, NGOs, and local organizations, to improve livestock systems research that promotes sustainable growth in low- and middle-income countries.

Description

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for Livestock Systems Research for Development. This RFI aims to gather feedback on future investments in livestock systems research to promote sustainable growth in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). USAID’s Bureau for Resilience, Environment, and Food Security (REFS) Center for Agriculture-Led Growth is leading this effort. Stakeholders, including implementing partners, researchers, NGOs, and local organizations, are invited to provide input to enhance coordination, demand-driven approaches, and the overall effectiveness of research initiatives. The RFI is organized around five main themes: Feeds, Forages, and Livestock Genetics; Animal Health and Welfare; Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability; Human Health and Nutrition; and Enabling Factors such as social inclusion, policy, and markets.

Interested parties are encouraged to respond to this RFI by submitting their feedback via email to livestockresearch@usaid.gov by November 1, 2024. The RFI also provides an opportunity for stakeholders to participate in a webinar scheduled for October 8, 2024, where live feedback will be gathered. Responding to the RFI is voluntary and will not provide any advantage in future procurements; it is solely for information gathering. It also does not obligate USAID to issue a subsequent Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) or to make an award.

The RFI outlines several questions to guide responses, focusing on how existing efforts can be enhanced in each of the thematic areas, identifying promising research opportunities or leverage points, and determining what information is needed to strengthen livestock systems in Feed the Future countries. Stakeholders may provide responses to any or all of these thematic areas.

Responses should be sent with the theme clearly indicated in the subject line, and participants will only receive an electronic confirmation of receipt without individualized feedback. Questions regarding the RFI should be directed to the specified email address, and any proprietary information should be excluded, as all responses become the property of USAID. Further details and submission instructions are included in Attachment 1 of the RFI document.
