Birth Equity Innovation Seed Grants
This funding opportunity provides financial support to community-based organizations in Illinois working to improve maternal and infant health outcomes in underserved communities.
Description
The Illinois Department of Public Health is offering the Birth Equity Innovation Seed Grants (BEISG), with $4,000,000 in total funding available to support community-based organizations addressing maternal and infant health inequities. Up to four grants will be awarded, with each grant ranging from $0 to $1,000,000. The application period runs from October 18 to November 18, 2024, and a mandatory technical assistance session will be held on November 4.
The program supports innovative projects aimed at reducing disparities in maternal and infant health, particularly in communities with higher risks of adverse outcomes. Eligible activities include connecting pregnant and postpartum individuals to doulas and support providers, engaging community health workers, increasing awareness of birth equity services, and enhancing care coordination. Applicants must demonstrate expertise in maternal health equity and have strong ties to the communities they aim to serve.
Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Grants Administration and Management System (EGrAMS) and include a project narrative, budget, and work plan using the SMARTIE framework. The grant period is from January 1 to June 30, 2025. Applicants are required to register with the Illinois Grant Accountability and Transparency Act (GATA) and meet eligibility criteria, including compliance with SAM.gov and state regulations. Award announcements are expected on November 25, 2024.
