El Paso Community Foundation

This funding opportunity provides financial support to animal welfare organizations in El Paso, Southern New Mexico, and West Texas to help them meet essential supply needs for the animals in their care.

Description

The El Paso Community Foundation is currently accepting applications for its newly established Borderland Rescue Fund, which aims to support regional animal welfare organizations in meeting the basic supply needs of animals under their care. Launched in response to the sharp increase in animals entering shelters and rescue facilities—more than 25,000 in 2024—the program is intended to alleviate some of the burdens on local organizations and demonstrate appreciation for their critical work.

Eligible nonprofit organizations located in El Paso, Southern New Mexico, and West Texas may apply for grants of up to $1,500. These funds are intended for essential supplies necessary to maintain animal welfare standards. The application process is streamlined to ensure minimal administrative burden on staff and volunteers who are often stretched thin.

In addition to the grant program, the Borderland Rescue Fund supports a 15-location Pet Pantry Network developed in partnership with the City of El Paso and its library system. It also includes a Medical Reserve Fund designed to help cover medical expenses for injured or sick animals and support the individuals or groups that rescue them.

The Summerlee Foundation, a Dallas-based organization dedicated to animal protection and historical preservation in Texas, has played a key role in supporting this initiative. Organizations interested in applying, donating, or learning more about the fund can visit epcf.org/borderlandrescuefund.

For further information, applicants may contact the El Paso Community Foundation by phone at 915-533-4020 or via email at info@epcf.org. The Foundation is located at 333 N Oregon St., 2nd Floor, El Paso, TX 79901, with mailing correspondence directed to P.O. Box 272, El Paso, Texas 79943.
