The Wild and Scenic Rivers Fund Grant Program
This program provides funding to local organizations and governments in Colorado to develop strategies for protecting river resources without federal designation, supporting projects like planning and restoration efforts.
Description
The Wild and Scenic Rivers Fund Grant Program, established by the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) in 2009, provides annual funding up to $400,000 to support local resource protection groups. These funds aim to develop protection strategies for river-dependent resources as an alternative to federal Wild and Scenic River designation. Eligible applicants include municipalities, special districts, non-profits, and private entities. Projects can range from capacity building, planning, engineering studies, to implementation of river restoration efforts. The application process is open on a rolling basis until funds are obligated, with a minimum of 25 percent to 50 percent matching funds required depending on the project type.
