Grant Opportunity: Virginia Saltwater Recreational Fishing Development Fund
Funder: Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC)
Award Details: The Virginia Saltwater Recreational Fishing Development Fund provides funding for projects aimed at conserving and enhancing finfish species taken by recreational anglers, improving recreational fishing opportunities, conducting research for fisheries management, and creating or restoring habitat for species taken by recreational fishermen. The fund consists of money collected from saltwater recreational fishing licenses and other sources.
Eligibility: Nonprofits, researchers, local governments, small businesses, startups, and other organizations are eligible to apply for grants from the Virginia Saltwater Recreational Fishing Development Fund. Projects must primarily benefit areas and fishermen within the geographic boundaries where a Virginia saltwater recreational fishing license is required.
Application Process: Applicants must submit a completed Project Application form that includes a detailed description of the project scope, anticipated deliverables and final products, a budget, and timeline. Applications can be submitted via email or mail. The application deadline is April 15th each year.
Review Process: The Recreational Fishing Advisory Board (RFAB) reviews project applications and makes recommendations to the VMRC. The RFAB holds meetings throughout the review cycle to discuss projects, accept public comment, and prioritize projects for funding. Final approval is given by the VMRC at their monthly meeting.
