Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA)

This program provides financial support to individual artists from the Bronx across various disciplines, encouraging their creative work and community engagement through public service activities.

Description

The Bronx Recognizes Its Own (BRIO) program, managed by the Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) and supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Greater New York Arts Development Fund, awards up to $5,000 to individual Bronx artists. For over 35 years, BRIO has celebrated the borough’s creative talent across diverse disciplines, including literary, media, visual, and performing arts. The program aims to support artists who exhibit proficiency, dedication, and extensive practice in their respective art forms.

BRIO awards reflect the diversity of Bronx residents, recognizing artists of all ethnicities, ages, and genders. Recipients are required to complete a public service activity known as Artists for Community Enrichment (ACE) within a year of receiving the award. ACE highlights the artistic talent in the Bronx and fosters a connection between artists and the local community, providing awardees with additional visibility.

The 2025 BRIO application cycle is now open, and submissions are due by 11:59 PM on Monday, January 13, 2025. Artists interested in applying are encouraged to review the program guidelines to ensure their eligibility and prepare their applications. This program continues to highlight and invest in the creative contributions that enrich the Bronx’s cultural landscape.
