Ignite Grants
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in Ohio for projects that make cultural and historical topics more accessible to diverse audiences through engaging public humanities initiatives.
Description
Ohio Humanities offers Ignite Grants of up to $20,000 to nonprofit organizations for developing and implementing engaging, immersive projects that bring deeply researched humanities content to broad audiences across Ohio. These grants are designed to make cultural and historical topics accessible, with a focus on under-told, yet significant stories relevant to Ohio’s diverse communities. Examples of eligible projects include museum exhibitions, discussion programs, oral history initiatives, and documentary filmmaking.
Ignite Grant applications must meet four key criteria: (1) the applicant must be an eligible nonprofit organization, (2) the public humanities must be central to the project, (3) public humanities professionals must play an integral role in the project, and (4) the application must adhere to Ohio Humanities’ budget guidelines. Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult with a Program Officer before applying to ensure their project aligns with these criteria and to receive guidance for submitting a competitive application.
The deadlines for final applications are February 28, June 30, and September 29, 2025, with preliminary applications due one month before each final deadline. This staged process helps ensure that proposals are well-prepared and aligned with Ohio Humanities’ mission to make humanities content resonate widely with Ohio audiences.
Organizations interested in applying should review the Ignite Grant Guidelines and may explore a list of previously funded projects to better understand the types of initiatives supported. Ohio Humanities remains dedicated to amplifying the voices and stories that define Ohio’s cultural and historical identity through its grant programs.
