Centene Foundation Grant
This grant provides funding to U.S.-based nonprofit organizations that focus on improving healthcare access, social services, and education within their communities.
Description
The Centene Foundation focuses on fostering long-term partnerships with U.S.-based nonprofit organizations that address critical community health needs. These partnerships aim to enhance healthcare access, social services, and education, aligning with Centene Corporation's mission to transform community health. The foundation's local approach ensures that grantmaking supports organizations with deep roots and expertise within their communities, prioritizing sustained impact over one-time contributions.
Eligible organizations must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) or Section 170(b) of the Internal Revenue Code, and their work must align with the foundation’s focus areas of healthcare access, social services, and education. Proposals are accepted during two annual application cycles: Spring (March 1 to May 31) and Fall (September 1 to November 29). The foundation does not generally fund short-term or one-time events, preferring projects that can develop into enduring partnerships. However, event sponsorship requests can be submitted separately via email throughout the year.
To apply for funding, organizations must submit their proposals through the Centene Foundation’s online portal, including relevant program materials and standard documentation such as an IRS Affirmation Letter, Form 990, and a W-9 form. Once a proposal is submitted, applicants will receive an acknowledgement email confirming receipt. The review process may take up to six months, depending on the complexity of the proposal, and organizations can track the status of their request through the portal. If awarded funding, organizations are required to submit an annual Outcomes Report, detailing the impact and progress of the funded initiative.
The Centene Foundation excludes certain types of requests from funding, including those from individuals, political or religious organizations, for-profit entities, youth sports activities, and foreign charities. Additionally, organizations that fail to comply with Centene’s non-discrimination policy or are flagged by regulatory exclusion checks (such as those conducted through OFAC, OIG, or SAM) are ineligible.
Overall, the Centene Foundation seeks to build long-term partnerships with nonprofits that address the broader determinants of health in a sustainable way, helping communities thrive by improving access to vital services and educational opportunities. Organizations interested in applying should carefully align their projects with the foundation's focus areas and follow the specific guidelines for submission to enhance their chances of receiving support.
